The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden offers a range of distinctive event spaces, with the Paul Hamlyn Hall standing out as one of the most striking. Completed in 1860 and originally part of the historic Covent Garden flower market, the Hall combines original ironwork with a dramatic barrel-vaulted glass roof that fills the space with natural light. It’s a popular choice for daytime events such as lunches, tastings, fashion shows and product launches.
Ellis Wines selected the Paul Hamlyn Hall for their Portfolio Tasting, an all-day event bringing together wine producers and buyers from around the world. I was commissioned to provide Royal Opera House event photography, covering the event from mid-morning through to the evening reception for their key business partners.
The brief focused on capturing strong hero images of the featured wines alongside natural, candid coverage of the event as it unfolded. With exhibitors spread across the full ground floor, additional stands along the balcony level, networking areas throughout, and keynote sessions hosted in the Balconies Restaurant, the day offered a wide variety of scenes, viewpoints and lighting conditions. And all that wonderfully soft daylight was perfect for bottle product shots even in such a busy event environment.
