How it works when you book me for your party photography
For most people it's a new experience booking an event photographer, and that's okay! Let me walk you through the process, and if you have any questions please do ask.
Booking
Tell me all about it
Use my contact form to let me know all the essential stuff like your date, location, what you're celebrating, and what times guests are invited. As much extra info about what you've got planned is nice to know too. If I'm available I'll send a quote and we can take it from there.
If you're not sure how long you need event photography for just let me know and we'll look at the options together before booking.
The main event
What happens on the day?
I'll arrive early to say hello and get my bearings, and after that you can pretty much forget about me and focus on enjoying your party.
My reportage-style approach to event photography means I simply fit in around you looking for images that tell the story: details and wide shots, natural moments, and happy people. There's no need to keep posing for me all night, although if you'd like a couple of family group shots before things kick off it's no problem, let me know and we'll arrange that with you.
Delivery
Getting your photos back
After the party I'll start editing, and everything's usually finished a few days later, depending how busy I am. I'll upload them all to your own private online gallery, which you're welcome to share with anyone you want.
From there you'll be able to browse the photos on any device, order museum-quality prints, and choose favourites for an album. And of course you'll get a link to download everything as high resolution JPGs to keep on your computer.
Cherish your memories at their best with a custom-designed album.
Treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind memento so you'll never forget the memories you made.
The photos we print are the ones we enjoy most often. It’s easy to dismiss getting an album, but if you want to enjoy your photos it doesn’t get any better than a beautifully printed, one-of-a-kind book to pick up and flick through whenever you want.
Printing your photos makes those memories even more real, and you’ll re-visit them far more often for years to come. By contrast, so many photos end up forgotten on our phones and hard drives, days after we took them. And even better, with a book there’s no need for a plug, screen, or wifi connection.
My premium lay-flat photobooks are made with sheets of thick, smooth paper that open completely flat for seamless double-page spreads, wrapped in an engraved leatherette cover. Just choose your favourites and I’ll design it all for you, with two rounds of your adjustments to get it just right.
My 10×10 books start at £240 and that pays for the design & proofing sessions, printing & binding, and courier delivery in the UK. And if your family would like a copy too there’s an extra discount for duplicates.
Frequently asked questions about private party & event photography
If you have a question I've not answered here, please do ask and I'll be happy to help.
How do we book?
Just get in touch to tell me a bit about your event and if I'm available we'll work out a package, then I'll set up a booking page on my website for you. There's a deposit to pay and a booking agreement we both sign, then the date's reserved and you're all booked in.
How long should we book for?
It really depends what you're planning, and I'm happy to advise if you're not sure. Most people planning a medium to large party book three or four hours, and sometimes longer for big dinner parties with drinks first and dancing later.
When do we get our photos back?
For private party and event photography it usually takes around a week to finish editing and set up your gallery and digital archive. Albums take around 14-21 days after approval to be produced and delivered.
Do you do portraits during the event?
I specialise in candid photography so once a party gets going I avoid interrupting people for posed shots. Of course, if anyone asks for a snap with their friends as I'm passing that's no problem! And if you'd like to do a couple of family group shots it's good to organise those at the start before it gets too busy.
How many photos will we get?
Every event is different so it depends what you have planned, but usually there's 40-60 per hour at the party. There might be fewer if it's a small party, or more if there's hundreds of guests and lots going on.
Can we get prints?
You'll love your photos even more when they're printed! You can order premium-quality prints, frames, and even Thank You cards from your gallery, or for the very best experience I'll design a bespoke lay-flat album using all your favourites. And of course you're welcome to make your own prints and albums from the digital files.
Can you provide video, or a photo booth?
I specialise in photography and don't offer a photo both myself. But I can introduce you to some great photo-booth companies, videographers, and other event services including magicians, string quartets, and bands.
What about cancellations and postponements?
These are handled on a case-by-case basis. Generally, for cancellations the reservation fee is non-refundable to cover the costs of reserving the date, and depending on the notice given there may be a further fee payable. For postponements I may be able to transfer some of the fees paid to the new date. Full terms are detailed in the booking agreement.
