It’s always great to shoot somewhere new, and this was my first time photographing an event in the Lydia & Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. What a stunning venue, and a great choice given the subject matter.
The occasion was the launch of Building Blocks, a new book collecting the projects of Messana O’Rorke, an architecture company based in New York. Founded in 1996 by Brian Messana and Toby O’Rorke, they work with both residential and commercial projects and specialise in designs that emphasise the qualities of the space, rather than the things that fill that space.
The ‘fireside chat’ featured Brian and Toby essentially interviewing each other about a selection of favourite projects featured in the book, discussing the reasons they were attracted to each space, how they approached them, what they tried to achieve, and how they’re guided by the unique properties of each project.
After the presentation Brian and Toby took some of their family and closest friends to Sachi for a private dining experience, and I captured a few photos as they arrived before leaving them to it.
