I was commissioned by Action Against Hunger to provide corporate event photography for their Too Many Critics fundraising gala dinner. Hosted by Leyla Kazim at Roe in Canary Wharf, the evening brought together leading food critics who swapped the roles for the evening, stepping into the kitchen to work alongside Roe’s professional chefs preparing canapés and a full three-course dinner.
The event included both a silent auction and a live auction, hosted by Edward Rising, a former Sotheby’s auctioneer, before a winning critic was selected by a panel of celebrity judges including Gizzi Erskine. The night concluded with carriages after a lively and well-attended fundraiser.
My role as the event photographer was to document the evening as naturally and unobtrusively as possible for Action Against Hunger’s archives and marketing use. Coverage began with venue setup and branding, before moving into documentary-style photography of the drinks reception, auctions, and key moments throughout the night, alongside detailed close-ups of the food as it was served.
The brief required comprehensive corporate event photography that captured the atmosphere and the experience without disrupting proceedings, which is central to how I work. Clients often tell me they barely noticed I was there, which is exactly the intention.
