Every year Imperial College London opens the doors (and the fields, lakes, and woods) of their campus at Silwood Park, for their very popular Bugs, Birds, and Beasts Day. Families are invited to go along and spend the day taking part in a variety of tours and activities exploring the grounds and learning how bugs, birds and beasts enrich our lives.
They can watch live bird eggs develop and hatch, marvel at falconry displays, take part and discover wonderful facts about the creatures all around us on bug hunts, and go pond-dipping with nets to uncover the world of water-based bugs.
There’s some great food vans on-site to keep everyone fed, and plenty of indoor activities under the marquee, such as virtual reality displays, and a selection of carniverous plants to learn about. But I think most of the kids and adults alike were most excited about the falconry display, including yours truly. Such magnificent creatures, and so very well trained too.
I was commissioned to photograph new PR and marketing images of Bugs, Birds, and Beasts day for ICL, and spent the day running around with everyone capturing all the fun and as many of the bugs, birds, and beasts themselves as possible.
