Anthon and Portia were celebrating with a joint 40th birthday party at Hixter Bankside in London, and wanted photographs that capture the atmosphere rather than a load of cheesy posed shots all night – and that’s my speciality!

The last time I was at Hixter Bankside for an event it was for Yanin and Ming’s wedding photography, after their Southwark ceremony, but this time we’d be downstairs in the basement bar. It’s a nice big room with a three-sided bar dominating one side of the room, as well as a jukebox, a DJ desk, space for a photobooth, coat racks, close access to the kitchens for all the nibbles to emerge from, and plenty of space for a few dozen guests to enjoy themselves without getting too cramped.

Speaking of photo booths, Anthon and Portia had booked Foto Noir, an unobtrusive booth that creates high contrast black and white portraits, and comes with a board for you to pin up a copy over the course of the night. Check out a few photos of the booth and the photos it makes in the gallery below.

Here’s some of my favourites from the party. If you like my style and just happen to need an 40th birthday party photographer yourself I’d love to help, just get in touch and tell me all about it. Cheers!
