Event Photography: a 50th birthday at The Savoy

Caroline’s family had organised this party and dinner at London’s Savoy Hotel for her 50th birthday, and it was a hit – I love surprise birthday parties! Nobody has actually ever organised one for me (hint hint, Hollie) but they’re great fun to photograph for other people. There’s a sense of mischievous glee amongst the invitees before the guest of honour arrives, a kind of unspoken bonding that we’re all here for a special, secret reason. As the stranger in the room with the camera I feel that bit more part of the party when it’s a surprise. And then there’s the wonderful expression on their face when they arrive, of course!
