I was commissioned by TAG Heuer to document their brand takeover of the iconic British Pullman train ahead of its VIP journey to the Goodwood motoring festival. With its elegantly restored carriages and storied history, Belmond’s Pullman train provided the perfect setting for a luxury branded experience.
The evening before, the team meticulously prepared the cabins: laying out customised tickets, arranging branded details throughout, and ensuring every element was flawless for the guests. Then before departure the Pullman train guards made a final inspection of every table: cutlery and glassware checked, tablecloths aligned, and every detail precisely in place. They spared no effort, from the polished woodwork and vintage fittings to the bespoke décor created specifically for the occasion.
On the morning of departure at the Clapham rail depot I arrived early to capture the train as gorgeous shafts of morning sunlight streamed through the curtained windows, reflecting off the golden wooden tones to create a beautiful warm glow. As we travelled to Victoria Station I had around 30 minutes to photograph every detail, highlighting the precision and care of the setup. Once the train reached Victoria Station we had a short window of 10 to 15 minutes to capture some exterior shots and a few candid moments on the platform before the VIPs boarded and the historic train set off for Goodwood.
This commission was a perfect example of documentary-style branded experience photography, capturing both the curated environment and a few of the authentic moments between guests that bring the experience to life and create memories for everyone.
