When I was invited to make reportage-style photographs of James’s 50th birthday party I was really excited as we were going to be venturing underground to the vaults of the world famous company of Berry Bros. & Rudd, a wine merchant of phenomenal history and repute, for drinks and dinner under the stone arches of their Napoleon cellar. It’s an absolutely fantastic venue, very intimate and oozing with history – from the main salesroom on the ground floor (which doesn’t look like it’s been altered in any way since it originally opened if the vintage photographs on the walls are anything to go by) down the winding creaking wooden steps to the cellars, you know you’re walking in the footsteps of employees and guests going back hundreds of years.
