Michael Whitfield, who I know through my work for Thomsons Online Benefits, is Chairman of the Barnes Rugby Club and invited me to provide event photography at their annual City Lunch.
The venue, One Whitehall Place, is a wonderful cornerstone of a building, an elegant block built in the 1880’s principally as the home of the National Liberal Club, with stunning views over Embankment and the London Eye.
I’ve had the opportunity to shoot both celebrations and corporate events on the top floor at One Whitehall Place and the glorious central stairwell has always captivated me; I learned on this occasion that in fact each step is a solid slab of marble slotted deep into walls so that it requires no further structural support – it just winds proudly around the curvature of the wall. Pretty cool.
